AFTERMATH OF AVIAN INFLUENZA IN INDIA

Is culling of chickens in massive scale at the Imphal area of Manipur, which lies in the periphery of India, often referred to as the abode of non-violence since Mahatma Gandhi, who propagated it in his political struggle to win independence against the British Empire, the then mightiest among its European peers, happens to hail from this very land, justifiable remains to be answered.
Even though the threat of an imminent pandamic fades off, the drive to cull the poor fowl is still on at the expence of hard-hit poultry farmers.
Careful monitoring of the outbreak of the dreaded avian flu is, no doubt, the need of the hour yet proper compensations should be given to the farmers so that they could carry on sustaining themselves and their families.
Govt. needs to implement measures which must be able to cater to the immediate rehabilitation process of the farmers and the general safety as well.
